Peterson Surfcraft strives to create quality hand shaped surfboards that allow surfers to feel an instant connection to their board, where there is seamless communication between rider, board, and wave.

The Story.

Josh Peterson started his shaping career as tradition would have it: sweeping floors, bagging boards, and doing the things no one else wanted to do.

From his introduction to dust and fumes, he has always had an affinity for shaping. After spending several weeks apprenticing with Jeff Bushman, he has built on that foundation through time spent with other master craftsmen like Ryan Lovelace and Rich Pavel. He is proud to be able to continue the tradition of hand shaping.

Though shaping became his passion, his interest in art and design have found a welcomed home in the glassing all of his boards. For as long as possible, he plans to continue building Peterson Surfcraft boards from start to finish.

A letter from the shaper…

What initially attracted me to shaping was the curiosity of how different shapes interacted with different waves. What I didn’t know is that the community around surfing would change my life. I have been lucky enough to connect with so many beautiful people around the world through board building and surfing. Through working years of production board building I discovered this: I really value the personal connection gained through making a board for someone. I value the whole process, from translating a customer’s thoughts into a design that will get them where they want to go in their surfing, to handing them a finished product. I am truly thankful to have this craft and I look forward to sharing it with you all!
